What motivated you to apply for this internship?
Everyone I talked to had great things to say about Optus, so I was eager to apply, and it turned out to be the best internship I could’ve asked for.

What were your responsibilities during your internship at Optus?

I created social media content, promotional print materials, multi-page documents, user guides, presentations, marketing campaigns, and wall installations. I was also able to attend meetings and work alongside other departments to create the materials they needed. This gave me a valuable opportunity to gain insights into what it's like to work in a professional setting.

What was the most exciting aspect of your internship?

Having such a wide range of projects allowed me to further develop my existing design skills, but also pushed me to learn new things. I think I learned something new almost every day.

What was the most challenging aspect of your internship?
I was constantly learning new skills and learning how to manage my time and projects, and while that was rewarding, it was also challenging at times.

Have there been any projects or tasks that were particularly rewarding or challenging?

Two projects come to mind. One was the redesign of the Optus timeline, which was a particularly rewarding experience for me. I had the opportunity to work on the project from the research phase to the design phase, all the way to the installation phase. It was a new experience for me to design an installation, so it was rewarding to see the end result come to life, displayed in the office.

The other project that comes to mind is the creation of a Benefits Guide for Optus employees. This was quite challenging for me, as I had to create an 80-90 page document that explained their insurance and benefits in a user-friendly and easy-to-understand way. It was a challenging task as I had very little knowledge about insurance, so I first had to understand the information myself and figure out a way to help others understand it as well, but it was rewarding to see the final product come together.

What did you learn during the internship?

I was constantly learning something new. I developed new skills as a designer and a marketer, learned how to apply those skills, and learned what it's like to work in a professional setting.

What specific professional benefit has this internship provided?
Aside from everything I learned during my internship, I also gained incredible mentors who would do almost anything to see me succeed in my career whether that be helping me prep for a job interview, providing me with networking opportunities, or helping me improve my resume and portfolio.

How would you describe the company culture at Optus?

It was a laid-back work environment, and from day one, everyone was so welcoming and felt like family. I always felt like part of the team rather than just an intern, and I could honestly say I enjoyed coming to work.

Would you recommend interning at Optus to others?

Duh.
