Employee Spotlight | Matt Kilbreath

Name

Matt Kilbreath

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in a small town in Northeast Arkansas, Piggott.

Where did you go to school?

I went to elementary and high school in Piggott but attended middle school in St. Louis, Missouri and Saudi Arabia.

Brag about your family.

My family is everything. They are why I am here, period. If not for them I would be finishing out my military career. My wife and I have two wonderful boys—one is in junior high and the other is in early elementary. My boys love sports, movies, toys, and video games. We are a superhero family as we own almost every Batman and Marvel movie. We have also dressed up as Marvel characters as a family for Halloween on several occasions.

What do you do for fun?

We enjoy movies and sports. However, we have started to embrace more leisure travel as a family. My wife and I have already picked a few different places we want to live when the boys leave the home. We will see how that works out!

What was your first job?

I started working for my uncle’s lawncare business and The Wise Company (boat seat factory) when I was 14.

What is your dream job?

I’d like to have my own BBQ restaurant that specializes in ribs, pork, smoked wings, and smoked chili.

What is something very few people know about you?

I lived in Saudi Arabia from June 1993 to June 1996, just across the border from Iraq and Kuwait.

What quote/motto do you live by?

I try (not always successfully) to live by “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Tell us your Optus story.  When did you start and what position?  Have you moved positions/jobs?

I started in November 2012 as a Test Technician. My main objectives at the time was National Account phone system staging specifically for O’Reilly, Enterprise, and Pier 1. In September 2013, I promoted to our Systems Support Team specifically to provide technical support for Enterprise Rent A Car. In March 2014, I was promoted to National Account Service Manager for Enterprise Rent A Car. During this time, my objectives were to establish and maintain our Help Desk and Project Management services for Enterprise Rent A Car. In November 2017, I was promoted to Support Services Manager. I manage our Project Management, Service Delivery, and Help Desk services.

What is your official job title?

Support Services Manager

What SHOULD your job title be?

Optus Service Police

Describe your day to day job.

My day to day consists of managing high performing teams to deliver first-class professional services, focusing on excellent customer service while refining our processes and training to ensure the highest level of efficiency.

What is one thing that Optus does better than any other employer you have had in the past?

My experience prior to Optus was the military where everything is by the book and structured. Optus does a great job of providing communication across all levels of employees and management. There is always a door open to speak with someone when needed.

Tell us about one learning or growth opportunity you have had while working at Optus.

I did not have a great deal of business experience before coming to Optus. Optus has given me opportunities to learn business practices and grow into a better decision-maker for our employees and customers.

What do you like most about working at Optus?

My team of friends (or work family).

Have you received recognition from Optus on a job well done?  If so, what was the recognition?

I have been very fortunate through Optus’ recognition programs. In 2014, I was awarded Optimum Performer of the Year (or Employee of the Year), and in 2017 I was awarded the Lighthouse Award (or Leader of the Year). These have been largely due to the outstanding, talented, and dedicated teammates I have had the opportunity to work with.

We like to say, Optus is like a family.  Who at Optus is like family to you and why?

I would say all my teams as we have a bond of trust, hard work, and transparency. However I do have a few specific individuals that I have been fortunate to grow alongside throughout my tenure who will always be lifelong friends, such as Nicole Freeman, Jessica Dillon, Sara Clay, Donna Bearden, Daniel Figgins, among a few others.
