Jonesboro, AR – Optus, Inc. announced it had selected Ivy Hooker as this year’s recipient of the Optus Family Scholarship in honor of Adam Harrington. Ivy will be a 2017 graduate of EPC High School and will be graduating with a GPA of 4.07 and as Valedictorian. Some of her many Extra-Curricular Activities include being a Founding Member of T2, a “think twice” program which encourages making good decisions as in no drugs and no alcohol, President of Senior Class, Mentor to elementary and Jr. High Students and Secretary of Student Council. Ivy will be attending the University of Central Arkansas and major in Biology/Chemistry. She is the daughter of Daniel and Marla Brewington of Tyronza. Daniel is an 18-year Optus employee and works in the Test and Repair segment of the company.
To qualify for this scholarship, Ivy had to be a full-time student working towards an undergraduate degree at an accredited college or university, have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and be the child or grandchild of a current full-time Optus employee. The $1,000 per semester scholarship will be renewed by Optus for up to 3 additional years as long as Ivy maintains her eligibility. Also, Optus plans to continue making a new award each year.
Adam Harrington was the son of Neal and Rhonda Harrington formerly of Jonesboro. Adam died suddenly in August of 2006 when lightning struck him in Hot Springs. Adam was a graduate of Nettleton High School and was attending the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. Neal Harrington was a long-term employee of Optus who recently relocated to the Hot Springs area.
