Press Release | Optus Announces Scholarship Award Winner

Jonesboro, AR – Optus, Inc. is honored to announce that Kylan Washington has been selected as this year’s recipient of the Optus Family Scholarship in honor of Adam Harrington. Kylan will be a 2018 graduate of Munford High School and will be graduating with a GPA of 3.86. Kylan has an impressive community service record including volunteering at summer camps, school tutoring and working with youth at the elementary school. Some of his many honors include the Football All-Region First Defensive Back, perfect attendance, was named to TN Boys’ State and was named on the West Tennessee All Star team. Kylan was elected Mr. MHS by his class. Kylan will be attending the Cumberland University and majoring in Nursing. Kylan is the grandson of Deborah Reed, a Restoration Technician who has been an Optus employee for 7 years.

To qualify for this scholarship, Kylan had to be a future full-time student working towards an undergraduate degree at an accredited college or university, have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and be the child or grandchild of a current full-time Optus employee. The $1,000 per semester scholarship will be renewed by Optus for up to 3 additional years as long as Kylan maintains his eligibility. Also, Optus plans to continue making a new award each year.

Adam Harrington was the son of Neal and Rhonda Harrington formerly of Jonesboro. Adam died suddenly in August of 2006 when lightning struck him in Hot Springs. Adam was a graduate of Nettleton High School and was attending the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. Neal Harrington was a long-term employee of Optus who recently relocated to the Hot Springs area.
